Cars in German City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Authorities reported they were alerted by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
