Larian Studios Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
